Honestly, I didn’t know Florida held a Derby Race each year. The winner from the Florida Derby race gets to compete in the Kentucky Derby Race. Which is literally right around the corner. The wonderful people from America’s Best Racing invited me to enjoy a day of racing at the Gulfstream Park. When I picture a derby race, I picture men and women betting and screaming for their favorite horses! It can get a little intense! It’s also one of the most fashionable event of the year. This year Kentucky Derby fashion will be covered by Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski for NBC (E Online!).
I visited the Florida Derby race back in March. The weather was so unpredictable that day. There were dark clouds above us and the humidity were extra high. My friend and the most amazing photographer, Janel Kilnisan joined me at the race. We took advantage of the empty grounds and she was able to get all these gorgeous shots.
When we finally sat down to enjoy the race while praying it doesn’t rain. I noticed more and more people filling the venue at the Gulfstream park. Also the skies started to clear up. I was surprised to see so many young people at the event. I mean, the venue is free, parking is free and there was alcohol and food for purchase in every corner. It was actually exciting to see the race in action. I found myself screaming for the horse I picked, I should’ve bet on it!
Next time if you find yourself wonderful what do on the weekend, or you just want to check out this amazing venue and sport, you’re in luck! The racing continues…check out the dates here.
