Before I even try to explain why I became a vegan, which BTW is for a very simple reason. I should mention that about a month ago I wasn’t planning on becoming a vegetarian or vegan at all. I come from a family who loves to eat beef curry, chicken curry, creamy sweets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My mother is known for her delicious and hearty foods. People rave about her cooking all the time. Bengali food in general is rich in flavor and there are so many variety of Bengali dishes. So I just knew that it would be hard for me to transition to a lifestyle that requires me to stop eating any animal products and their by-products. I’m also always on the go, for me it’s super convenient to just drive through McDonald’s, Burger King and Taco Bell for a quick cheap meal. I know, that it’s bad for you. But I ignored it because well let’s face it – those foods were made to be fast and yummy.
And now – here I am today celebrating 1 month of being vegan. For me it’s a big milestone. I feel amazing and I know that it’s something I want to continue to do.
So why I went vegan? I stopped drinking milk almost 8 months ago. It was after I watched a video on my Facebook about milk production. All I remember was watching how disgusting the industry was and learning about what’s actually in our milk. I couldn’t drink milk or look at milk the same way ever again. But, a month ago I saw a quick video that popped up on my Facebook news feed. This video is also about the dairy industry, by Erin Janus. It’s only a 5 minute video, but it completely changed everything for me.
Just giving you fair warning, it’s extremely graphic.
I know it’s intense. But it’s the truth. I’m writing this post to announce to the world about my new lifestyle change. I wrote this post also to remind myself why I chose to be vegan. Believe me, I have no intention of going back. After watching this video, I went on a full research mode and found more horifying facts about the dairy and meat industry. If you’re a vegan or thinking about becoming a vegan, I would love to hear from you.
