I can’t believe I didn’t share this post earlier. Finally, here it is! Last month I had one of the most amazing day wine tasting with winemaker Rodolfo Bastida. Rodolfo has been the winemaker for Bodegas Ramón Bilbao since 1999. Mr. Bastida hails from Rioja and draws inspiration from the history of Spanish winemaking. I was invited to “Rodolfo’s House” in Miami Beach, where I had a chance to meet all the great people that work with the winemaker and hear their incredible stories. Rodolfo shared beautiful photos of the winery in Rioja and other parts of Spain. Spending time with the team felt like hanging out with friends who I haven’t seen in a very long time.
A little bit about the wineries – The Ramón Bilbao winery in Rioja uses the grape varieties which are the most representative of the area, Tempranillo and Garnacha. The winery is spread out across 445 acres of land and vineyards. Over 40 years old, the area stands out for its altitude and the proximity to mountainous areas.
Recently, Ramón Bilbao has built it’s own winery in Rueda. A beautiful modern facility that’s located in a unique setting and named Finca Las Amedias, surrounded by 148 acres of vineyards. This is where the varieties Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc are grown with a unique purpose: to express the tastes and aromas typical of the grape varieties in the region. The Ramón Bilbao winery is located within the estate itself and this enables the grapes to enter the facility at their optimal point just moments after being harvested.
Ramón Bilbao won “Best Winery of 2009” by the Gourmet Wine Guide and was named Best Spanish Wine Producer by the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2014.
Here with the main man himself, Rodolfo Bastida. In 1999, at the age of only 31, he became the CEO of Ramón Bilbao to implement a major renovation of the winery, introducing a brand-new approach to the world of wine production. Placing special emphasis on the grape production process by carefully choosing the right land, the perfect sunlight exposure, and the right grape variety.

This was “Rodolfo’s House” for the week, a little hidden treasure in Miami Beach called Orchid House. The intimate gathering turned into an evening of hanging out by the pool while sipping delicious wine. If you follow my Instagram stories, you must have seen some other crazy shenanigans from that day!
I love attending private personal events where I get to meet the faces behind amazing brands. Thank you so much for having me at your Miami house, Rodolfo and team. Till next time….
